Man investigated after alleged animal abuse in regional NSW (2025)

Warning: Distressing Images

A regional NSW man has been caught uploading graphic images of alleged animal abuse in the Broken Hill area, depicting himself running over an injured kangaroo’ s head with his dirt bike, fighting an exhausted kangaroo and kicking baby animals among other acts.

The video shared by Aussies Against Animal abuse came from the Broken Hill Snake Catchers Facebook page, which shows a man, whom for legal reasons 7NEWS cannot name, allegedly causing serious harm to various animals, causing a massive public outcry for authorities to act and arrest him.

The regional NSW local has deleted all his social media after the videos went public.

The Broken Hill Snake Catchers posted on Facebook calling for the local man to be arrested.

“If you have a weak stomach, please don’t watch the video,” they said.

“It is deeply disturbing that we have been receiving multiple reports of people being horrifically cruel to animals. This one which was brought to our attention last night is one of the most deplorable things I’ve ever seen.

“This local person has been filming himself doing absolutely appalling things to animals and sharing it on social media with friends. Apparently he finds joy or entertainment in his actions. Fortunately, one of his mates was so disgusted in his actions that the videos were saved and have been shared with the police and RSPCA NSW.

“Please, I beg of you. If you know someone that behaves like this, report them to the police and the RSPCA as this kind of behaviour is sickening.”

7NEWS.com.au cannot confirm if the kangaroo the Broken Hill man ran over is the same one he filmed himself fighting in a separate video.

In NSW kangaroos are protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and cannot be harmed without a licence (culling) and the federal law it makes it an offence to kill, injure or capture any kangaroo or wallaby.

The laws governing animal cruelty in NSW are found in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 and the Crimes Act 1900. Harming kangaroos without a licence is illegal, and those convicted of animal cruelty — including killing or injuring kangaroos — face up to five years in jail and fines of up to $22,000.

This may include the person holding the camera to film the Broken Hill man fighting the kangaroo.

He also filmed himself kicking baby goats in their pens on two separate occasions, filming two separate kicks at different angles showing him kicking them into the air before they land metres away.

In one video, the baby animal appears to approach the man expecting feed or milk before being kicked violently.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that there is currently an investigation into the videos of the alleged animal abuse.

“Officers attached to Barrier Police District have commenced an investigation into multiple incidents of animal abuse following reports videos of animal abuse had been posted online,” they said.

“As investigations continue police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to contact Broken Hill Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

RSPCA NSW has also been approached for comment about the alleged animal abuse.
